It could be helpful to listen something made by you. It would be more easy to give you useful tips if we know how your tracks or loops sound.

First of all, YOUR sample sounds too dry... Try to give some distortion and filters.

Have you ever tried to edit samples for example adding some dirt or reduce the bitrate?

For me it sounds like un edited One Shot samples but you must give this samples a new character by editting and modifing. Do you use also Synth Plug ins, for the bass lines and other things??

why delete??

mod it or crash it in way that nobody could identify it as 808 Tom :P

Thanx for the reply's ;-)

Yeah i know my thingy sounds to dry.. i use reason so no software synths.. where to get good loops etc? someone of you know some good ones and where to get?

But where can i mod and crash it with then? cuz when i try to do that in reason it always get fucked.. or it is to overloaded or it sounds like hell..

It would be nice if someone could help me with it for real like showing me some things in real and not by words.. because i just dont know what to do.. :P

I created most of my most amazing drumloops with reason - just use a ReDrum, load any drumset (really, it doesn't matter), hit randomize, plug a scream distortion after that and voila - you are done. Just use a clean, loud, hard kick and use that to modulate the scream output (compression).

Here are some loops which were NOT postprocessed with any software - just a redrum with some FACTORY drumkits, a scream distortion. that's all:

In fact, some drumloops sound really chris liebling like - now we know how he does his stuff :P

Damn thats sounds really nice :P

Would be nice if you could show me it in practice because you are talking about mod a kick with scream.. i know how to scream a complete redrum but not one sample..

No, I use Fruity Loops as main sequencer, and sometimes use Reason stuff. I don't have a specific way of working things out. Sometimes I use one-shot samples, another time I use loops I chop, depending on what I want to do. That way, each track sounds different :P

uhm no not really, most of the drums I use are heavily-modified versions of original drummachines, or drumkits which were delivered with FL Studio and Reason. I do alot of crazy things with effects

But know you hear my second problem :P It sounds to empty.. the basskick is totally not Phat.. can someone help me out with that problem? if that problem is fixed for me.. then i could go work on.. and then i got the motivation and then im going to buy: Alesis One MKII Active Monitors of a sign that i will continue with music :-).

EDIT: BTW the synth in the loop is wrong! so dont mind the synth sound :P

learn how to use compressors

if you mastered that, you are all set for your musical future. Without them, nothing will ever sound "right". It's a hard way to understand them, but it's worth the trouble.

it is pretty impossible to teach someone how a compressor works. I assume it would take at least 2 months intensive training before you will benefit from it. There are alot of resources on the net, and that's the work you have to do yourself.

Thanks timo.. you are a really cool and nice person! Is there any way that you could add me in your msn list? so i can let you hear the results of my training how to work with compressors? not like every day that i send you a sample.. just for a few times.. you could give me a bit of hints how my progress is going?

I know the topic is old, but do you wanna show us your progress for techno? :-)

If you want you can look into my soundcloud and hear some of my tracks, it's tribal techno, but you can leave the tribal percussion and vocals and then it's only normal techno ;P
